Frequently asked questions

Where does my data live?

Only on your device, in Apple's on-device storage. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. If you delete the app your data goes with it, so keep an export if you want a copy.

Does it work without internet?

Completely. Moniefest has no networking code at all, so every feature — including reading screenshots and recordings — works in airplane mode. Try it: switch airplane mode on and nothing changes.

How can I be sure nothing is sent anywhere?

Three ways. The App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected", which is checked during review. iOS keeps its own receipts — turn on Settings → Privacy & Security → App Privacy Report, use Moniefest, and its network section stays blank. And it all works in airplane mode, which couldn't happen if your data needed a server.

How does reading a screenshot work?

Screenshot the transaction list in your bank app, then in Moniefest tap Import → Scan Screenshot and pick it (or copy the screenshot and tap Paste). The text is read on your phone with Apple's Vision framework — the image is never uploaded. Every row lands in a review screen where you can fix categories or leave some out before saving.

How does reading a recording work?

For a long history, record your screen (Control Center → screen recording) while scrolling slowly, then pick the video in the same import screen. Scroll steadily — fast flicks blur the text — and Moniefest skips the frames that overlap.

What's the orange dot on some expenses?

It flags an imported expense whose date had to be guessed — usually because the screenshot cut off between a date heading and its rows. Open the expense, confirm or fix the date, and save; the dot goes away.

How do I remove an expense?

Swipe left on it, long-press it for a menu, or open it and tap Delete.

Which CSV files can it read?

Most bank and card exports: comma, semicolon, or tab separated; quoted fields; a single signed-amount column or split debit/credit columns; US (1,234.56) and EU (1 234,56) numbers; and several date formats, sorted out automatically. If yours doesn't come through cleanly, email a sample (blank out the amounts if you like) and it can usually be supported.

Will importing the same file twice double things up?

No. Every row is fingerprinted, so bringing in a file you've already imported quietly skips the rows that are already there.

Can I change the category it picked?

Yes. The import review screen lets you go through every row before it's saved — leave some out, or tap a category to change it.

Does it handle more than one currency?

Amounts show in your device's currency. Converting between currencies isn't part of this version.

Does it sync between my iPhone and iPad?

Not right now — with no cloud account to sync through, each device keeps its own copy.

Can I get my data out?

Yes — open Import & Export and choose Export. Send your expenses as a CSV or Excel spreadsheet, or a PDF statement grouped by month, for any period. Files are made on your device and go only where you send them. The CSV comes back into Moniefest without doubling up, so it also works as a backup.
